December 2018 - Siesta Key
Our Florida roadtrip ended with a few days on the beach at Siesta Key. There's not a whole lot ot say pictures-wise, since it was just a lot of relaxing on the beach, shelling, reading, and having a great time. We tried to do a little snorkeling but the visibility was very poor due to some storms the week before. While attempting to snorkel, we swam out about a hundred yards or so, and found that we were able to stand in shallow water on a sandbar. While we were standing there, we had the incredible experience of having large pods of stringrays swim right past us at the surface. Each pod was a dozen or more stingrays, and while we stood there there were 6 or 7 pods that swam past us in the course of 15 minutes - more than a hundred total stingrays. They were swimming right at the surface, so you could see them really clearly, and some of them came within a few feet of our legs. Pictures can't quite capture how cool of an experience it was, but you can check out the video at the bottom anyway.
