Birds About
March 2020 - Aroha Island

We wanted to see a Kiwi, which are nocturnal and a bit shy. We read that Aroha Island is a place where there's a chance. We stayed for two nights, and didn't see anything the first night, but were successful on the next night! We saw three, and got a really good look at two of them. Getting a picture of one was a bit of a challenge, but it turned out alright! And we saw a few other birds too.

At night under the light of a red flashlight, a North Island brown kiwi!
He was digging around in the forest, looks like a big hairy ball

A lovely trail by the river through redwood forest
On our drive up the island we stopped for a Kiwiburger - it has beets and an egg. I'm not usually that into beets, but this was actually really good!
